| Public Title | Lewis Acid Mediated Functionalization of Porous Silicon with Substituted Alkenes and Alkynes | | Division | | | Lead Inventor | Buriak, Jillian | | Public Description | This technology allows preparation of highly functionalized, photoluminescent porous silicon surfaces without any need for oxidation. One hour reaction time at room temperature using commercially available reagents yields remarkably stable surfaces that are resistant to conditions (KOH solutions, boiling water) that normally corrode native surfaces. The photoluminescent properties of the porous silicon are unperturbed by the functionalization. Because this method is tolerant of a wide variety of chemical groups, functionalities can be incorporated which may later be used as anchors for more complex molecules, allowing for an even greater density and diversity of surface-bound functional groups. This easily implemented technology has potential applications in the fields of microelectronics, biosensors, and information storage, to name a few. | | Patent Status | | | Public References | | | Key Words | |
