In order to keep the size of the file small and keep the transmission time down, quality has been sacrificed. This technology is a coding scheme enabling a system to send a high quality image as well as mixed content documents very quickly. Older coding schemes were not good at maintaining quality in scanned images using halftoning techniques. This scheme enables high quality images to be compressed and still maintain their detail.
