Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the relationship manager for a portfolio of companies based in the Discovery Park District and Purdue Research Park with strengths in engineering, defense, aerospace and non-life science technologies.
  • Lead efforts to ensure commitments to portfolio companies are successfully completed including the creation, identification and tracking of progress and successful completion of commitments to partner companies.
  • Lead efforts to ensure portfolio companies leverage assets at Purdue University and Greater Lafayette that result in mutual value, stability and growth including the creation, identification and tracking of progress and the successful completion of mutual value-producing growth opportunities with partners companies.
  • Create partner action plans for each portfolio company that identify commitments, pan-Purdue asset utilization, Greater Lafayette asset utilization and new opportunities for growth.
  • Create strategic exploration techniques that result in identification of new growth and relationship opportunities to advance the missions and strategies of portfolio companies.
  • Maintain a regular on-site presence in West Lafayette that facilitates strong relationships at Purdue University and Greater Lafayette.
  • Utilize available CRM tools to maintain partner data, tracking of metrics, creation of dashboard information and general tracking of tasks and opportunities.
  • Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain strong communication, collaboration and cooperation within the PRF Placemaking team and among pan-Purdue, Greater Lafayette, local, regional, and statewide personnel and organizations leading to support and success of partner companies.
  • Develop and participate in local networks, social and relationship-building activities.
  • Develop and participate in Placemaking and Alliance Management Team activities and events intended to build strong partner relationships.  Activities and events will focus on the partner’s relationships to the team, to pan-Purdue assets, to the community and to other partners and companies.
  • Facilitate personal relationships between partner leadership and pan-Purdue and Greater Lafayette leadership
  • Participate fully in the Alliance Management Team operations and activities.
  • Participate in regular communication, collaboration and cooperation calls facilitated by the Alliance Management Team and related teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the PRF Leadership Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that advance the missions of the Purdue Research Foundation.


  • Demonstrated track record of organizing successful business activities and the ability to lead the development of strong corporate alliances.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability as reflected in, among others, preparing proposals and presentations.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a wide range of professional and social settings.
  • Ability and personality to work collaboratively with and motivate leaders within the Purdue Research Foundation, Purdue University and Greater Lafayette with respect to portfolio companies achieving stability and growth goals.
  • Maintain a leadership style that is open and fluid and that empowers staff through active communication and delegation.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate effectively in, a multi-faceted and complex institutional structure.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and data bases.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance.


  • Technical BA is preferred.
  • Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of professional industry experience within the engineering, defense, aerospace or non-life sciences technology sectors.
  • Minimum of five years of professional relationship or alliance management experiences with progressively increasing responsibility as well as a successful track record of meeting or exceeding goals.
