Intellectual Property Coordinator

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a liaison between OTC, Sponsored Program Services (SPS) and Purdue faculty on intellectual property issues related to any proposals, awards, contract negotiations, license deals and other issues.
  • Coordinate with faculty on background intellectual property issues related to active contracts and grants.
  • Ensure all required restricted research forms are processed for all pending proposals and reviewed by the OTC Business Development Managers. 
  • Coordinate academic signatures and Background and Foreground intellectual property (IP) reviews. 
  • Serve as a coordinator for 3-way non-disclosure agreements between SPS, OTC and third parties.
  • Provide oversight of all University-sponsored program contracts with special IP terms and conditions to ensure contractual compliance, issue resolution and appropriate oversight.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Intellectual Property Officer and the Vice President of OTC on outstanding intellectual property issues, diligence and follow-up.
  • Attend various sponsorship/partnership discussions to represent Purdue and OTC’s IP interests.
  • Assist PU/Sponsor Joint Steering Committee’s with oversight and review of IP issues.
  • Assist with the system-wide training of faculty and staff on the IP policy and procedures.
  • Coordinate and reconcile IP fee distributions between PU/SPS, PRF/OTC, Faculty Researchers and Departments/Units.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of intellectual property protection methods, contract law, and government laws and regulations related to technology transfer is desired.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, computer, written/verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Candidate must be comfortable interacting with people from varied disciplines and with managing multiple complex projects.
  • Strong legal contract comprehension required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

 Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-3 years of contracting, paralegal, research administration, business development or technology licensing in a technology-intensive industry required; some experience in technology commercialization desired.
  • Industry new product development and/or legal contract experience preferable.
  • Experience in negotiation of government contracts preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
