Essential Functions

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess potential commercial impact of new invention disclosures made by Purdue faculty, staff, and students.
  • Key responsibilities in performing:
    • Market research and opportunity assessment
    • Creation of marketing materials and technology packets
    • Initial identification and engagement with external stakeholders, including potential licensees, venture capitalists, and entrepreneurs.
    • Tracking external stakeholders and maintaining a relationship
    • Monitoring compliance of existing license agreements
  • Assist the business development managers with the initiation, drafting, and execution of confidentiality, inter-institutional, option, and license agreements from the assigned portfolio.
  • Draft contract amendments and monitor contract compliance and other aspects of relationships with licensees and collaborators.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Monitor and account for budget expenditures associated with all assigned duties.
  • Develop and present new strategies to enable technology transfer of Purdue intellectual property.
  • Participate in educational development opportunities to gain an in-depth understanding of the technology licensing field.
  • Other duties as assigned.


 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of technology transfer within industry and/or academia preferred.
  • Ability to gather information, perform research utilizing databases and other online sources, and distill into actionable information.
  • Ability to evaluate the market potential of early-stage inventions in science and engineering technology domains.
  • Basic understanding or willingness to learn contract documents and intellectual property strategy.
  • Excellent teamwork, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills,
  • Strong personal computing skills required.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and manage multiple complex projects.
  • Ability to complete projects on a timely basis, working both independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with CRM software, such as Salesforce, and process optimization tools, such as Microsoft Power Automate, is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with people from varied disciplines at various leadership levels in an organization.
  • Must be curious and deeply value exposure to and learning about new technology, concepts, people, and organizations.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or engineering related field; an advanced degree in business is a plus.
  • Experience working at a technology transfer office or related industry experience is highly desirable.
