Purchasing Agent-Buyer

Position Summary:

The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for negotiating, purchasing and acquiring all materials for a primarily electronics design and manufacturing environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Determines material requirements through MRP in SAP, project requirement or manual ordering systems.
  • Evaluates shortage reports, expedites materials and is responsible for providing solutions to reduce shortages
  • Reviews open Purchase Order reports, updates PO delivery dates, maintains backorders and provides feedback to requisitioners
  • Reviews supplier on time delivery performance and sends corrective actions per established procedures
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory levels to ensure on-time performance
  • Assists in the development and execution of cost reduction programs
  • Processes non-conformances and manages products return to vendor
  • Responsible for working with Production, Engineering and Quality to determine supplier quality, and respond as needed
  • Initiates and monitors purchase contracts for assigned suppliers
  • Investigates methods for lead time reductions and makes recommendations
  • Reconciles invoice discrepancies with suppliers
  • Contacts and/or meets vendors to gain knowledge of their offerings and to resolve issues.
  • Maintains the ‘Conflict Mineral Policy’ with all suppliers
  • Maintains ‘Buy American’, ‘ROHS’, ‘REACH’ vendor information with all suppliers
  • Assures all company requirements related to ISO maintenance and SOX compliance are observed.
  • Assures that all Government Trade Compliance (GTC) practices are observed



  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3 years minimum relevant purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered
  • Experience with MRP outputs and reports
  • Experience with SAP procurement
  • Strong interpersonal and (written & verbal) communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to multi-task
  • Self-starter - possess a high degree of self-motivation
  • Computer proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Travel required on occasion (1-2 times per year)
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • US Citizenship required - Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.



  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM)
  • Experience in electronics manufacturing environment
