DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a great opportunity for a motivated Greenhouse Manager, eager to be part of a growing purpose-driven start-up, to establish and manage the daily operations of Inari’s first greenhouse complex at the Purdue Research Foundation campus in West Lafayette, IN.   

As Greenhouse Manager, you will…

  • Coordinate with Inari’s PRF Site Manager, Cultivation Manager, and project leaders to determine their research and demonstration needs and allocate staff and material resources.
  • Coordinate with facilities, operations, and IT staff to ensure timely and effective operational infrastructure including equipment and utilities.
  • Supervise greenhouse staff.
  • Ensure that the operation is compliant with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Manage greenhouse facility equipment and computer controls.
  • Conduct basic maintenance of control systems, such as HVAC and irrigation.
  • Oversee inventory of plants.
  • Coordinate planting, watering, and fertilizing plants in the greenhouses and growth chambers.
  • Identify greenhouse pests/diseases and understand appropriate treatment regimes.
  • Apply pesticides as needed.
  • Harvest plants/seeds as needed.
  • Make recommendations on fertilizer and potting mediums.
  • Explore ways to improve processes for more efficient growth and harvest yields.
  • Maintain greenhouse use and propagation records.
  • Partner with Finance department in developing budgets and accounting by estimating cost of operations, travel, wages and capital equipment.
  • Maintain records of greenhouse activities.
  • Purchase and/or authorize the purchase of supplies such as pesticides, fertilizers, potting media, pots, and other growing supplies.
  • Practice and enforce required Personal Protective Equipment rules and protocols, and other safety precautions.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as needed.

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field; Horticulture, Botany, or other plant biology degree preferred. 
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a greenhouse.
  • Prior experience managing an operation and a team preferred.
  • Understanding of plant life cycle, particularly soy, corn, and wheat.
  • Knowledge of: ○ plant propagation techniques ○ plant care, including watering, fertilization, and pesticide application ○ basic greenhouse operation and maintenance and central control systems ○ local, state and federal regulations and environmental mandates
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience using Argus controllers.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • May involve exposure to extreme temperatures, moisture, dirt, dust, chemicals, unpleasant odors, loud noises.
  • Requires routine and strenuous physical activity such as heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects or equipment over 50 pounds.
