Research Associate - Genome Editing Characterization

● Contribute to the genome editing product development and characterize
transgenic crops
● Perform Next-Gen sequencing library (e.g. amplicon-seq and
enrichment-seq) preparation/QC for Illumina sequencing and sequencing
data analysis
● Collaborate with scientists and research associates to execute scientific
experiments using molecular analytical techniques including isolation of
DNA and RNA, oligo design, qPCR, RT-PCR, and ddPCR
● Development and deployment of appropriate automation/ robotics to aid
processing and improve throughput
● Explore new technologies/ products and identify creative solutions to
optimize current processes in a fast-paced research environment
● Communicate results to stakeholders in written technical reports and oral
● Participate in experimental design and troubleshooting efforts, developing
high-throughput methodologies, and assays


● Bachelor’s degree with at least 2+ years lab experience or Master’s degree
in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. molecular biology, plant
biotechnology) or equivalent lab experience
● Knowledge of plant molecular biology and an interest in agriculture
● Extensive demonstrated experience with molecular biology assays and
associated instrumentation in DNA/RNA extraction, nucleic acid
quantification, PCR amplification, qPCR, and RT-PCR
● Demonstrable skills in NGS library preparation, Illumina sequencing
● Excellent time management and organizational skills
● Strong communication skills, both written and oral
● Curiosity and a desire to continuously learn and have a meaningful impact
● Creative and strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks
● A collaborative approach, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives,
and feedback
● Ability to work independently


● Knowledge of genome editing technologies
● Experience in running assays on an automated liquid handling platform
● Experience in genotyping technology such as KASP, or GBS
● Ability to program in a scientific programming language (e.g., Python or R)
and perform basic bioinformatics analyses
● Experience in molecular cloning including restriction enzyme cloning,
Golden Gate, Gibson assembly, and PCR-based assembly
● Familiarity with Geneious, Benchling, or similar software for plasmid design
and construction
