Director of Training Programs

Essential Functions

  • Recommend, develop, direct, and implement training programs through which the Institute educates policymakers and diplomats about critical and emerging technologies.
  • Identify, recruit, onboard, and manage Senior Fellows, particularly faculty from Purdue University, who will lead the development and implementation of in-person, virtual, and hybrid training programs.
  • Market the training programs to senior government officials with the goal of securing contracts to provide training to government staff and creating a sustainable revenue stream for the Institute. 
  • Coordinate with Purdue Online to craft and launch the Institute’s virtual and hybrid training modules.
  • Communicate and coordinate key milestones, strategic objectives, and accomplishments to the Director, and represent the Director’s vision and requests throughout execution of the role.
  • Research and assess the specific training and onboarding needs of technical training among government agencies.
  • Conduct market research to identify strategic competitors and refine the unique selling proposition of Institute training programs in comparison to other academic or policy entities.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of events at Purdue University and in Washington, D.C., to further the educational objectives of the Institute. 

 Additional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate understanding of and ability to communicate the Institute’s mission and objectives to high-level stakeholders from academia, government, industry, and other sectors
  • Collaborate with Institute team to secure corporate sponsorships of training programs

  • Familiarity with academic and/or government professional environments

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel as needed.


  • Experience in program management, preferably in an academic or government environment
  • Sales experience is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5-10 years’ experience in developing and implementing training programs
