Job Summary:
Novosteo was founded to reduce the morbidity, mortality, and loss of productivity associated with bone fractures. Based on discoveries of agents that accelerate bone regeneration and breakthroughs in methods to target these agents selectively to fracture surfaces, Novosteo has designed a series of fracture-targeted drugs that concentrate a drug's healing power specifically at the fracture site, thereby greatly accelerating and improving the healing process. The mission of Novosteo is to reduce the debilitating and often life-threatening effects of Bone Fractures and other skeletal-associated diseases. This job provides the exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative team contributing to the development and discovery of new pharmacological solutions for life threatening orthopedic diseases.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Synthesis of biologically active organic molecules
  • Manual peptide synthesis
  • Maintenance of an automated peptide synthesizer
  • Purification using techniques such as HPLC, SEC, and Flash Column Chromatography
  • Collection and interpretation of analytical data using techniques such as NMR, MS, and UPLC
  • Analysis of chemical samples using TLC, UV-Vis, pH, Osmolarity
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Maintenance of the laboratory space, to include washing glassware and cleaning workspaces
  • Proper disposal of chemical waste and containers
  • Maintenance of chemical inventory
  • Data generation using software such as ChemDraw, MNova, and GraphPad Prism
  • Summarizing experiments and data in lab notebooks, digital reports, or presentations
  • Determination of the relationships of chemical and physical properties, composition, structures, and reactions of organic and inorganic compounds using chromatography, spectrophotometry, and spectroscopy techniques
  • Preparation of compounds, test solutions and reagents to conduct tests and experiments, then advising and coordination of test procedures
  • Consultations with engineers and scientists on analysis, interpretation, and development of tests
  • Documentation of findings in technical papers and reports, preparing specifications and testing standards
  • Ordering of laboratory supplies and chemicals, monitoring expiration dates

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in: Chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical science, industrial and physical pharmacy, medicinal chemistry, molecular pharmacology, chemical engineering or other related fields
  • Successful track record of publications
  • Experience with peptides and formulations
  • At least 2 years of lab experience
  • Experience with HPLC and organic synthesis
  • Good organizational skills and lab notebook skills
  • Analytical skills for conducting scientific experiments and analyzing them with precision and accuracy
  • Communication skills for writing and publishing research papers and reports, giving presentations and communicating with team members
  • Critical-thinking skills for drawing conclusions from experimental results through sound judgment and reasoning
  • Interpersonal skills for working well with others on a team towards a common goal
  • Mathematical skills for using complex formulas and equations during research
  • Perseverance to be thorough in planning and approaching research strategies
  • Problem-solving skills when using analysis and scientific experiments to identify solutions to complex scientific problems
  • Time-management skills for prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines when conducting research
