Senior Director of Development, Purdue Global

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute a plan to bring donors to Purdue Global through active use of the development process, including solicitation of major gifts. 
  • Secure major gifts aimed for meeting the strategic goals of Purdue Global leadership, their programs, disciplines and the University with the expectation of raising $1M-2M gifts annually.
  • Perform visits with alumni and other prospects and manage a portfolio of prospective donors.
  • Make asks or prepare proposals for alumni, friends and/or organizations as prospective donors.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of a comprehensive Development program in consultation with the Assistant/Associate Vice Presidents for Development, Broad-Based Campaigns, and Planned Giving.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact, for assigned centers, departments and other faculty/staff in coordinating fundraising efforts for these strategic initiatives.
  • Frequent travel and/or evening and weekend duties are required.

Additional Responsibilities


  • In consultation with the Associate Vice President for Development, identify and establish personal contact with current and prospective major gift donors whose interest and financial capacity have the greatest likelihood of strategically meeting Purdue Global’s fundraising goals.
  • Orchestrate and execute the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.  
  • Collaborate with appropriate development and academic staff to develop prospect strategies and build relationships. 
  • Set specific objectives to effectively advance toward solicitation of major gifts.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination with corporations, foundations, other business partners and other unit and University constituencies. 
  • Prepare proposals and solicit prospects for gifts in support of Purdue Global’s strategic plan and fundraising priorities. 
  • Participate in receptions and other donor events. 
  • Provide stewardship of gifts through the acknowledgment process, assisting with recognition events, dedications, and working with the University Development Office on appropriate recognition.
  • Become familiar with and understand key initiatives relating to faculty, students, instruction and research.


  • Work with the Unit Development/Advancement staff, Chancellor, Deans, and Associate Vice President for Development to develop and implement a fundraising plan, including strategies and a timeline for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donor prospects.
  • Ensure effective records maintenance, including timely filling of requests for prospect assignments, prospect strategies and contact reports, using the University’s constituent relationship management system.
  • Create various communications targeted for donors and prospects.
  • Continually improve professional competency through training and participation in and/or leadership in professional, organizational and other not-for profit organizations. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the demonstrated ability to communicate well in writing and speak before large groups. 
  • Ability to interpret and articulate the mission of Purdue Global and Purdue University.
  • Must be able to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds. 
  • Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times required. 
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to collaborate effectively required. 
  • Excellent relationship building, organizational and time management skills required. 
  • Knowledge of finance, planned giving, alumni relations, corporate relations, and advancement communications preferred.
  • Ability to continuously improve professional competency through participation in professional education opportunities necessary. 
  • Good computer skills necessary.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position. 


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three years of experience in fund development including solicitation of major gifts and/or related work experience required.
  • Experience in higher education or other non-profit organizations a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with the programs of Purdue Global desired but not required.
