Position Summary:

The Benefits Specialist will serve as the primary point of contact at Purdue Federal Credit Union with regard to administration of benefit and wellness programs. Will act as the liaison between employees, management, and third-party vendors. Will oversee and process enrollments, terminations and changes related to all benefit programs. Will administer Leaves of Absence and the 401(k) plan. Will advise management and employees on policies related to benefits and wellness programs.

*Employees are expected to adhere to all rules and regulations applicable to this position, including but not limited to all policies and procedures pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Benefits Administration

· Serve as primary contact for employees with regard to benefits and wellness programs including but not limited to health, dental, vision, workers compensation, COBRA, HSA, FSA, tuition reimbursement, 401(k)/retirement programs and FMLA administration.

· Provide support to employees at new hire orientations, annual open enrollments and throughout their employment by coordinating the processing of enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims.

· Administer all leaves of absence including FMLA, maternity, parental, personal and military. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use. Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.

· Serve as a COVID-19 administrator, tracking exposure and infections and answering employee and manager questions regarding application of CDC guidelines, pandemic pay, and return to work guidelines.

· Advises managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.

· Serves as primary point of contact for 401(k) plan with regard to the tracking of enrollments, changes, terminations, rollovers, company contributions, vesting schedules and payout information.

· Develop communication tools to enhance employees’ understanding of the company’s benefits package.

· Coordinate with plan vendors and third-party administrators with regard to the transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.

· Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

· Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes. Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations.

· Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files. Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and the preparation of vouchers for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.

· Perform plan audits. Prepare, collect and organize data for actuarial assessments.

· Complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results

· Plan and organize annual wellness screenings and flu shots

· Work closely with other members of the HR & Training team to create best practices for benefits administration.

· Will remain up to date on current employment laws pertaining to benefits programs.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

· Education and Credentials

o Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources management, Business or related field preferred.

o PHR or SHRM-CP certifications preferred.

· Experience

o Minimum 3-5 years of recent Human Resources experience required.

o Experience and knowledge in Benefits Administration, FMLA administration and employment laws.

· Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

o Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.

o Exceptional customer service/relationship building skills to serve employees, management, members, vendors and the general public.

o Ability to communicate in a compassionate and empathetic manner and maintain confidentiality in dealing with highly-sensitive information.

o Proficiency in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

o Ability to follow the core values of honesty, integrity, mutual respect, pride and ownership.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

· This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines

· This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets

· This position requires sitting, bending, stooping or standing as necessary
