Position Summary:


The Credit Analyst I is responsible for the collection, evaluation and analysis of financial data in regards to member business loan requests and ongoing relationships to identify and quantify risk and financial capacity of borrowers. It is also responsible for monitoring compliance with NCUA regulations and Purdue Federal’s policies and procedures on all existing and prospective Member Business loans.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Review and analyze credit requests to determine financial and non-financial strengths/weaknesses, risk level, and feasibility of proposed credit relationships and transactions
  • Build financial spreads in the loan origination system that will serve as the basis for all financial analysis’ performed in the role
  • Prepare formal credit risk assessment analysis on new and existing credit in the loan origination system. Analysis should include historic and projected financial performance as well as industry information and qualitative factors relevant to the decision
  • Prepare annual reviews of larger credit relationships
  • Develop a masterful knowledge of Purdue Federal Member Business Services’ policies and procedures.
  • Recommend appropriate covenants and conditions as may be required based upon the complexity and risk of a credit proposal (i.e. loan agreement language, borrowing base certificate advance rates, etc.)
  • Evaluate trends in customer data to promptly identify and report areas of concern and potential problem loans, and develop suggested mitigants. Communicate the findings to Credit Manager.
  • Review appraisals to identify variances from USPAP that may exist and report such findings to the Credit Manager
  • Collect and assemble portfolio data for special reports of credit data as needed.
  • Use IBISWorld and other market data to support an effective industry & market analysis for each credit request.
  • Attend continuing education seminars on credit analysis and financial analysis software to enhance personal knowledge and skill
  • Assist in training new departmental staff on all aspects of Suntel, Spectrum Branch Suite, Nautilus, nCino, IBISWorld, and other operational software used by Purdue Federal MBS


Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Educations and Credentials
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management or related field
  • College credit hours in accounting strongly preferred
  • Experience
    • 1-3 years’ experience in lending institutions analyzing credit required
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
    • Strong financial and analytical skills
    • Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Excel
    • Experience with Salesforce preferred
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
    • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in a professional manner when dealing with employees, members, vendors and others

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets
  • This position requires sitting, bending, stooping or standing as necessary
