Assistant/Associate Director-John Purdue Club/Assistant Director of Development

Essential Functions

  • Secure Annual Fund, Premium Seating, major gift and other donations to support Purdue student-athletes.
  • Build and manage portfolio of advancement prospects, meeting annual goals set each year.
  • Identify major gift and advancement prospects by personal interactions and University Development Office research.
  • Build relationships with donors through calls, face-to-face visits, events, and personal cultivation.
  • Provide customer service/support and membership assistance to donors over the phone, via email, and at athletic and John Purdue Club events.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Identify major gift and advancement prospects by personal interaction and research.
  • Make phone calls to donors and prospects to secure donations.
  • Utilize game days to visit and advance donor/prospect support of Purdue Athletics.
  • Represent John Purdue Club at on and off campus events to increase donations and members.
  • Provide support to the John Purdue Club’s Directors for Annual Giving.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent customer service, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to think creatively with a willingness to take initiative.
  • Capacity to multi-task is critical.
  • Self-directed with a learning orientation to changing technology and its impact on business practices, including social networking.
  • Personal computing skills required, including knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of and experience in development and intercollegiate athletics preferred.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

 Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Degree in Athletics Administration, Management, Education, Communication, Hospitality and Tourism Management or related field preferred.
  • Some experience in sales, marketing, event planning, ticket office and/or development preferred (relevant internship may be substituted for experience.)
  • Customer service background and understanding of intercollegiate athletics are a high priority.
  • Experience as a Purdue student-athlete is a plus.
