Associate Director, Donor Relations

Essential Function

  • Facilitate donor-centered stewardship that deepens relationships, binds donors to Purdue, and inspires future gifts.
  • Develop and assist with implementation of individualized stewardship plans in collaboration with involved internal stakeholders.
  • Manage acknowledgement process for gifts which do not fall into the Broad-Based Campaigns automation process. Review gift reports. Write personalized acknowledgement messages on behalf of academic leadership.
  • Respond to donor inquiries with accurate and timely information.
  • Participate in centrally led donor touchpoints, if applicable.
  • Coordinate with President’s Council, R.B. Stewart Society, and other Purdue for Life affiliated giving societies as it relates to specific functions within the unit you support. 
  • Develop and facilitate scholarship stewardship activities and touchpoints between scholarship endowment donors and students.
  • Provide appropriate stewardship for endowment holders, based on guidance from the Purdue for Life Foundation. Collaborate with unit business offices to ensure appropriate allocation and expenditure of donor funds prior to reporting impact with donors. 
  • Serve as a resource for donors on development-related issues, requests and visits. Coordinate campus visits based on the donor’s expectation and wishes.
  • Manage football ticket process and suite attendance for donors.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, both centrally and unit-based.
  • Document constituent contacts in Ascend/Salesforce.
  • In collaboration with colleagues across campus, seek opportunities to provide stewardship to major gift donors. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist President’s Council in carrying out any donor-centered activities.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Special Events and/or unit-based event teams to coordinate, plan, set goals, and attend donor-centered events which include a development component.
  • Participate in PFLF Develop U activities and continuing professional development opportunities.
  • Some evening and weekend work required.
  • Occasional travel may be required. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required for written and verbal contact with donors and alumni. 
  • Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Must be able to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and ‎cultural backgrounds. 
  • Excellent relationship building skills for both internal and external constituents. 
  • Demonstrate competency with the CRM (Salesforce) and proficiency with Microsoft Office, with a focus on Microsoft Excel, and networked informational systems used within the Purdue for Life Foundation.
  • Strong professional ethics are required.
  • Thrive in a team environment with strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in donor relations required.
  • Non-profit, customer service, or sales experience preferred.
