Essential Function

  • Work closely with the creative director and Purdue for Life marketing and communications colleagues to conceptualize, design, and produce a wide variety of print communications and digital graphics that are visually appealing, easy to understand, and consistent with the organization’s branding and key messages.
  • Work in cooperation with Purdue for Life Foundation units to create effective designs that are in brand and that meet fundraising needs. Prioritize projects for college/unit-level work with a development focus.
  • Edit assets and photography according to University and Purdue for Life brand guidelines.
  • Participate in creative discussion, provide input on the overall look of marketing materials, and seek inspiration through research of design trends and key markets.
  • Communicate ideas visually and verbally.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with Purdue for Life Foundation colleagues (fundraisers, donor and
    alumni relations staff, special events staff, Purdue for Life leadership) to complete projects on time and with high quality.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with communications team to create graphic design solutions based on project brief and internal staff input.
  • Manage assigned creative projects from concept through completion.
  • Develop relationships with external vendors to ensure on-time completion of quality deliverables within budget.
  • As needed, attend and participate in Purdue for Life Foundation sponsored programs and events.
  • As needed, work in cooperation with Purdue University Marketing & Communications and freelancers.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Proven expertise with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Excellent typography, composition, and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, exceptional decision-making and organizational skills, and the ability to plan and prioritize.
  • Must be open to critique and constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to multitask while working in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Must be detail-oriented and deadline-driven, completing tasks and projects error-free and on time.
  • Ability to proofread and understand standard proofing marks.
  • Project management experience required.
  • Working knowledge of copyright laws applicable to design.
  • Photography, illustration, and/or handcrafting skills a plus.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision; self-motivated.
  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs.


  • Five to ten years’ experience in visual design or publishing profession.
  • Experience in estimating and preparing files for print production; experience in creating quality digital art for distribution.
  • Experience working in an in-house marketing/design department a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in visual communications design, graphic design, or related field.
  • Equivalent work experience is acceptable in lieu of a degree.
