At Saab in West Lafayette, Indiana, you have the opportunity to join a team that will manufacture the rear section of the T-7A Red Hawk military trainer aircraft for the United States Air Force. When at full capacity by 2027, Saab will employ over 300 employees in the West Lafayette facility in management, administration, and manufacturing. As Saab is building a new advanced manufacturing facility in West Lafayette, IN, we are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to develop a world-class Quality function to support the U.S. Air Force new military trainer, the T-7A Red Hawk. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, experience in aerospace, and is able to work as a team to problem solve.


  • Planning, implementation and monitoring of quality related activities in order to maintain quality performance and, if necessary, improve quality performance from suppliers.

  • Conducts corrective /preventative action investigation determining root causes of supplier defects and the implementation of actions to correct defects, to include Continuous Improvement/Permanent Corrective Action.

  • Monitor and develop supplier performance in line with established goals and requirements.

  • Review First Article Inspection (FAI) performed by supplier.

  • Ensure evaluation and qualification of suppliers is performed and maintain an Approved Supplier List (ASL) along with Supply Chain.

  • Manage and develop relationships with suppliers to secure the commitment to current and future programs.

  • Assess supplier quality capabilities throughout the program life cycle to fulfill program objectives.

  • Identify and manage supplier risk and performance issues ensuring Root Cause and Correct Action (RCCA) identified and implemented with closure plans.

  • Drive continuous product and process improvements.

  • Support Plant Quality Engineers.

  • Monitor and analyze risk while preparing risk mitigation plans with root cause analysis and systemic problem solving.

  • Participate as a member of the Material Review Board team and lead proposed corrective actions.

  • Participate in 1st party internal audits to ensure process maturity and capability while ensuring compliance for our customer, production, and supply chain functions.

  • Lead 2nd party supplier audits to evaluate and ensure supplier product conform to all requirements.

  • Coordinate with supplier’s quality representatives and technicians to ensure compliance

  • Train future team members in quality principles and systems.

  • Deliver a people first culture in alignment to Saab leadership vision.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality or related discipline is required. Master’s degree is a plus.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, with expertise of the aerospace industry and experience with Department of Defense (DoD) a plus.

  • Experience with product acceptance and process evaluations at suppliers’ facilities.

  • Experience working issues (root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions), monitoring supplier performance data to identify trends, analyzing opportunities for continuous improvement, implementing supplier improvement actions.

  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems, testing and inspection methodologies per ISO 9001:2015. Lead auditor training in AS9100 a plus.

  • Understanding of Counterfeit Parts Avoidance

  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), Capability studies, and Gage R&R studies.

  • Excellent communication and team building experience working in an international environment.

  • Ability to be self-driven and deliver a high quality of work.

  • Ability to drive and lead change. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • ASQ – Certified Quality Engineer, IPC certification(s), and/or other related industry certifications are desired.
