Assistant Director of Development - Varsity P, Intercollegiate Athletics

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in achieving the Athletics Director’s advancement goals by building strong relationships with a broad base of alumni and increasing giving from Purdue Athletics alumni.
  • Advance the membership, marketing, and communication efforts of Varsity P.
  • Assist in growing the department’s annual giving and John Purdue Club membership.
  • Assist in planning and execution of John Purdue Club and Varsity P special events.

Additional Responsibilities

John Purdue Club (JPC):               

  • Assist in personal recruitment and advancement of JPC members.
  • Assist in annual giving efforts of the JPC, including the donor renewal process.
  • Assist in new donor recruitment, managing mini-campaigns and assisting in developing marketing efforts for new recruitment initiatives.
  • Build relationships with donors through face-to-face visits, events, and personal phone calls.
  • Drive increased revenues for JPC through annual giving updates, gifts for specific projects, or new member sign-ups.
  • Research and identify new sources of revenue for JPC.
  • Oversee and manage specific JPC projects as requested.

Varsity P:            

  • Serve as point person for all Varsity P activities, including increasing membership.
  • Research D-I best practices in an effort to apply best practices approach to building membership in Varsity P.
  • Manage internal operations for Varsity P, including mailing efforts, communications, marketing, donor fulfillment, and events.
  • Work closely with head coaches on reunions and special projects with former student-athletes.
  • Regularly communicate with JPC staff regarding Varsity P membership statistics and updates.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to speak easily before groups.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and data reporting skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Personal computing and related software skills, such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, and data query necessary.
  • Must be able to effectively meet established deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to embody the strategic mission of Purdue University, Purdue Research Foundation and Intercollegiate Athletics with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Some travel and weekend work required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in athletic administration, fundraising, marketing, alumni relations, communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Playing experience as a Division I student-athlete is preferred.
