Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the lead relationship officer for a portfolio of top College of Engineering corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Implement comprehensive goals and strategies, significantly building strong and mutually beneficial partnerships with Engineering as well as the University.
  • Provide expertise and coordination of corporate and foundation activities across the Schools, units and with the central CFR office.
  • Provide guidance and collaborative leadership to corporate and foundation activity promoting holistic corporate and foundation relationships.
  • Effectively utilize a relationship building process, including identifying partners to support strategic and multidisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Work in tandem with university administrative, academic leadership, and similarly aligned offices in designing and implementing corporate visits, events, and informational exchanges.
  • Ensure cooperation and coordination with appropriate University constituencies through consistent and effective communication.
  • Prepare proposals and solicit investments from corporate and corporate foundation prospects totaling a minimum of $3M annually.
  • Supervise development professional and support staff. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the College’s office of the Associate Dean for Research, university administrative and academic leadership, corporate and foundation relations colleagues and development directors and with corporate executives to develop comprehensive and sophisticated goals and strategies to broaden and deepen Purdue Engineering’s strategic partnerships with key corporations and corporate foundations.
  • Leverage and maximize opportunities by working strategically and integrating efforts with the Office of Corporate and Global Partnerships, Office of Research Sponsored Programs, Purdue Research Park, and Center for Career Opportunities, Office of Engagement, and others across campus.
  • Set annual and long-term investment goals for key corporations and corporate foundations, including investment in research and educational priorities.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Associate Vice President, provide leadership as a senior corporate fundraiser in the strategic planning and direction of the overall Engineering corporate and foundation relations team, including serving as a resource and mentor to staff.
  • Continually pursue professional development opportunities including leadership in and service to national organizations.
  • Become adept at using the Advance and Reeher database in support of major gift activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated track record of organizing successful fundraising activities and the ability to lead the development of high-level gift and grant strategies and solicitations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability as reflected in, among others, proposals and presentations.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a wide range of professional and social settings.
  • Ability and personality to work collaboratively with and motivate faculty, development colleagues, volunteers and donors with respect to fundraising activities.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate effectively in, a multi-faceted and complex institutional structure.
  • Knowledge of, and top-level contact with, major sources of corporate funding.
  • Ability to travel, work weekends and evenings.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years professional experience with progressively responsible experience in educational fund-raising with specific experience in corporate relations or related experience in a corporate setting.
  • Minimum five-year of development and/or management experience required with the successful leadership and mentoring of staff.
