Director of Learning and Talent Development

Essential Functions:

  • In cooperation with the Vice President for Development, Chief of Staff, UDO Senior Leadership team and working closely with the Purdue Research Foundation (PRF) Human Resources team, organize and oversee individual and team training programs in the University Development Office (UDO).
  • Conduct research and pro-active assessment of the specific training and onboarding needs of all UDO employees.  
  • Develop employee retention programs and team building activities.
  • Ensure individual and team training programs are delivered in a timely manner using relevant content.
  • Facilitate the design, development, and implementation of learning curriculum in collaboration with subject matter experts within UDO.  
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts within UDO who will serve as mentors and trainers to ensure quality training and onboarding programs are developed and delivered. 
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of an employee mentorship program and development internship program. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Evaluate individual and team training programs based on feedback from participants and implement recommendations and improvements as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the communication of team training opportunities and resources available to all UDO employees. 
  • Collaborate with the UDO Senior Leadership team and the PRF Human Resources team in planning regular employee performance evaluations and conducting skills gap analyses.
  • Monitor and report on turnover rates.   
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience in fundraising preferred.
  • Proven strong facilitation, networking and partnering skills with highly developed engagement techniques and relationship management skills.
  • An outgoing, dynamic personality that is energetic, enthusiastic, and has the ability to speak with passion and honesty about UDO and PRF. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and be proactive in problem solving, taking the initiative and setting priorities while being flexible.
  • Experience with the development of quantitative and qualitative surveys, evaluating the survey results and making appropriate assessments and recommendations.
  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to UDO and PRF business.
  • Ability to represent UDO and PRF with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Strong collegial interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft correspondence and reports as well as edit and proofread. 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and timelines successfully with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings, and travel for business as necessary. 
  • Strong computer skills needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.


  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience is required.
  • Proven work experience in talent development or a similar role.
  • Familiarity with performance management.
  • Experience delivering employee training programs.
