Essential Functions:

  • Identify ‎and establish ‎personal contact with prospective and current and prospective donors.
  • ‎‎Advance relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of ‎qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and ‎stewardship.  ‎
  • ‎Collaborate with appropriate development, department and academic staff to develop ‎prospect strategies and build ‎relationships.  Become familiar with and understand key ‎initiatives of the unit.‎
  • ‎Use the full complement of the fundraising process, including personal visits and ‎‎“asks” to move the relationship forward.  ‎
  • ‎Set specific objectives to effectively advance toward solicitation.  ‎
  • ‎Prepare proposals and solicit prospects for annual gifts and for major gifts to secure a ‎minimum annual goal of $2 million toward the unit’s fundraising goals.‎
  • Responsible for making a minimum of 144 visits annually with donors and prospects.
  • ‎‎Prepare and report regularly on annual action plans with defined activities and ‎timetables.
  • Ensure effective records ‎maintenance,‎ including timely filling of requests ‎of prospect assignments, prospect strategies and contact reports using the University’s ‎‎prospect system (e.g., Pacesetter, ARC, etc.).
  • Prepare progress reports as needed.‎
  • ‎Direct/coordinate stewardship activities for major donors, as requested, including the ‎acknowledgement process, recognition events,‎ and working with the Advancement ‎Office on appropriate recognition. ‎

Additional Responsibilities:            

  • Assist in the coordination of Homecoming, Regional Events, President’s Council ‎football weekends, and other special events developed by the Advancement Office, ‎the College or department.  ‎
  • ‎Facilitate involvement of major donors in unit programs including classroom ‎presentations, student activities, meetings with ‎ professors, advisory boards, etc.‎
  • ‎Oversee planning of off-campus events as they relate to fundraising and as assigned.‎
  • ‎Assist in the development of a marketing and communications plan that supports the ‎unit’s priorities.‎
  • ‎Continually improve professional competency through participation in and/or ‎leadership in professional organizations and ‎other not-for-profit organizations.‎

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Highly motivated individual with strong relationship building skills and demonstrated ‎capacity for leadership, organization and teamwork.
  • ‎Strong conceptual understanding of ‎development, public relations and marketing.
  • Strong professional communication and ‎listening ‎skills and ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all ‎levels.
  • Familiarity with the University and the programs of the ‎College of Engineering are desirable.
  • ‎Personal computer and related software skill, e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, ‎database, ‎Internet, etc. desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to travel is required.‎
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in fund development including solicitation of major gifts and/or related work experience.
  • University experience a plus but not required.
