JOB DESCRIPTION: Spun out of Purdue University’s top-ranked Lyles School of Civil Engineering, Wavelogix has developed an IoT sensing & data analytics platform for infrastructure monitoring & management. We are committed to digitizing the construction industry to improve access to accurate data and to simplify the workflows of construction contractors and engineers. We are seeking to hire a Sensor Engineer who will be responsible for the continued development & refinement of our electromechanical sensor(s), including researching various sensing modalities, designing & prototyping sensors, performing regular lab & field testing of sensor hardware, & processing & presenting data. As a Sensor Engineer, you also will be expected to provide input on manufacturing processes & technology roadmaps. You will also be required to write technical specifications, prepare technical reports & effectively communicate the technical aspects of our technology to customers, partners & other members of our team. You should be able to identify limitations of, & suggest improvements to, the sensors.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing physical sensing models using commercial software, i.e., COMSOL, ANSYS, etc.
- Designing & prototyping sensors, including packaging
- Validating sensing methods & sensor packaging through experimental work
- Defining applicable conditions & limitations for different applications and use cases
- Developing data analysis algorithm for data processing & reporting
- Working with software/embedded systems engineers to achieve system integration & integrity
- Engaging in product development from inception to manufacturing & troubleshooting
- Updating sensor hardware designs based on customer feedback
- Performing regular lab & on-site tests of sensor hardware
- Communicating technical aspects of sensors within & outside of the company
- Presenting development progress as needed
- Developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for different use cases
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering or related fields
- 1+ years of work experience in a similar role & industrial environment preferred
- Knowledge of acoustics/vibration/ultrasound & mechanical wave propagation required
- Knowledge of piezo material, EM wave propagation, waveguide, radar, &/or design of mechanical or
electromechanical sensor preferred - Basic skills in signal processing and programming for data processing required
- Critical thinking & problem-solving skills required
- Good time-management skills & communication skills required
- Good communication & interpersonal skills required
- Ability to travel regularly & work independently required
