Marketing and Communications Manager

Essential Functions:

· Serve as a member of the Foundry leadership team regarding targeting, developing, implementing, and measuring effectiveness of branding and marketing strategy.

· Develop communication content for use in PR, marketing and promotional campaigns, giving mindful consideration to Purdue Branding Guidelines.

· Produce and distribute news releases, news tips, media advisories, agendas, and related materials in compliance with news and content requirements.

· Maintain a strong web and social media presence for the WestGate Academy and Purdue@WestGate.

· Promote events in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, both locally and regionally.

 Additional Responsibilities:

Events:

· Create, manage and disseminate print and web branding and publicity materials for events.

· Utilize Purdue Foundry website, email and social media accounts to share community events related to entrepreneurialism with Foundry client/contact base.

· Develop new events aimed at expanding the entrepreneurial culture and community.

Design:

· Develop public relations strategies and provide consultations with clients for naming, branding and logo creation.

· Create flyers, brochures, banners, and graphics for clients’ companies and products.

· Prepare signage, posters and other visual materials for Foundry use.

Web:

· Overall responsibility for WestGate@Crane Technology Park, WestGate Academy, and Purdue@WestGate websites including image, functionality and accuracy.

· Maintain events, news and other content on appropriate website.

· Manage social media presence, image, content and interactions.

Other Duties:

· Develop workshops and training materials and conduct workshops for clients as needed on issues pertaining to website user experience, promotional writing, company branding, and social media presence.

· Continually seek new opportunities to discover and promote entrepreneurial activities in the community.

· Become certified instructor for Firestarter with the responsibility to lead and facilitate cohorts of faculty, students, and community members through the 6–week ideation process.

· Coach and critique pitches regularly.

· Coordinate efforts with the Purdue Research Foundation Marketing and Media department related to media and social media as well as generation of news story opportunities.

· Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Exercises initiative, team work, reliability, and entrepreneurial mindset.

· Graphic design skills and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.

· Website skills and familiarity with website builders (e.g. Wix), SEO, and Google Analytics.

· Social Media skills and familiarity with Hootsuite, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, etc.

· Excellent verbal/written/interpersonal communication skills, including preparing press releases.

· Ability to engender and maintain relationships with PRF/PU staff in addition to a variety of communication, media and marketing representatives throughout the region and beyond.

· Ability to handle wide variety of duties, be detail-oriented, manage multiple projects, and respond quickly to unanticipated problems in a calm, helpful manner.

· Ability to meet deadlines and work in a team environment.

· Demonstrated experience in providing customer service.

· Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

Experience/Education:

  • Associate's Degree 
  • A minimum of three years of experience in some or all of the following: communications, advertising, marketing, public relations, brand strategy, and graphic design.
