Kane Chew

As Business Development Manager I for the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), Kane brings both technical expertise and business skills to bear on academic innovation management. Kane works with inventors to assess the commercial viability of their inventions and to develop strategies enabling the technology transfer of Purdue intellectual property, primarily in areas of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Data Science. He also serves as a bridge between inventors, business partners and OTC's legal team in the negotiation of licensing agreements.

A practicing engineer by profession, Kane has 6+ years of experience in design, project management and technical advisory within the power and energy industry. In his former capacity as a consultant with DNV GL, a global technical risk management firm, he led a successful internal technology innovation initiative to develop a new market in hardware testing and certification.

Kane holds a BEng in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University.

1.  What is one invention that you just couldn’t live without? An Espresso Making Machine (first patented in Apr 28,1903 by Luigi Bezzera)

2.  What time period do you think would be the most fun to live in and why? The future space age. It has always been my dream to go on an interstellar trip to Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to our solar system.  

3.  If you were granted an interview with Albert Einstein, what would be your first question for him? How can we try to reconcile General Relativity with Quantum Mechanics?

4.  Write out in three steps what your plan of action would be if a mouse just ran by your door.

              Step 1: Locate the room where the mouse is.

              Step 2: Shut the door.

              Step 3: Read “Who moved my cheese?”.
